This course is ideal for those teaching aspects of physics at BGE who are not specialist physics teachers.
Topics covered will include:
The Van de Graff generator (safety, setting-up, safe use in the class, accessories, static electricity in general and fun experiments)
Multimeters (selection, set-up and use)
Electrical circuits (series & parallel circuits, measuring current and voltage, simple theory and fault-finding in these circuits) SCN 3-09a
Electrical equipment (selection, safety, power supplies and batteries)
Forces (simple experiments to demonstrate tricky concepts, an introduction to Newton’s laws of motion, road safety, using newton balances) SCN 3-08a, SCN 4-08b
Magnets (selection, safety and usage)
The electromagnetic spectrum(refraction of light, colour mixing, radiations beyond the visible) SCN 3-11b"

Accommodation
This is a one-day course, no accommodation is provided.
Location
The course will be held at SSERC in Dunfermline. Our SSERC buildings are at 2 Pitreavie Court, Dunfermline, KY11 8UU. SSERC is a short (5-10 minutes) walk from Rosyth railway station and close to the end of the A823(M) spur off Junction 2 of the M90 motorway. Car journey times (approximately): Edinburgh – 30 min; Glasgow – 60 min; Aberdeen – 2.5 hours; Inverness – 3 hours.
