A one-day introduction to data science at BGE and NPA levels

Ready your learners for a data-driven world!

Data science is the ability to ask questions, collect, analyse, interpret, and communicate stories about data. As technology makes it easier to collect vast amounts of data, the skills to understand data and use it to solve problems are becoming increasingly valuable. These skills are useful not just in maths and computing, but across the arts and sciences. The course will be taught by Dr Jasmeen Kanwal and Kate Farrell and has been developed in collaboration with data scientists, colleagues in industry, and educational experts, providing an innovative and exciting opportunity for professional development. Participants will discover ways to integrate data literacy and data science across BGE as well as the senior secondary curriculum in their subject. Teachers across all subject areas welcome!

This is a one day course at SSERC, no accommodation provided.

Location

The course will be held at SSERC in Dunfermline. Our SSERC buildings are at 2 Pitreavie Court, Dunfermline, KY11 8UU. SSERC is a short (5-10 minutes) walk from Rosyth railway station and close to the end of the A823(M) spur off Junction 2 of the M90 motorway. Car journey times (approximately): Edinburgh – 30 min; Glasgow – 60 min; Aberdeen – 2.5 hours; Inverness – 3 hours.

For schools over 50 miles from SSERC, they have the option to join the event online.

Cost

£25.00 per person (in person at SSERC)

£10.00 per person (online)

If joining the event online, your school must be over 50 miles from SSERC.
